WHO WE ARE

During her years as First Lady of California, Maria Shriver made it her mission to support and empower women physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. As First Lady, Maria chaired The Women’s Conference®, and under her leadership the annual conference became the nation’s premier forum for women, convening 140 newsmakers and opinion leaders with more than 30,000 women from all walks of life to educate and inspire them to be Architects of Change in their own lives, within their communities and around the world. Due to the unprecedented success of the annual event, The Women’s Conference awarded $6 million in grants to organizations that provided women with microloans, financial literacy training, domestic violence counseling, and college scholarships. and funded a three-day free health clinic for women and a first of its kind march on Alzheimer’s.

In 2010 the organization evolved into A Woman’s Nation to amplify the spirit of The Women’s Conference and expand on its work focused on the needs and wellbeing of women and their families. For the last 6 years, A Woman’s Nation has worked on the frontlines of humanity, collaborating with creative thinkers and influential organizations to ignite ideas into action in three core areas: Economic Empowerment, Social Justice and Women’s Health.

Now Maria is focusing A Woman’s Nation’s momentum and community on a health crisis that has a disproportionate impact on women through the Women’s Alzheimer’s Challenge.
